Edward the Blue Engine is the No. 2 engine on the Island of Sodor. He is the oldest and wisest engine on Sir Topham Hatt's railway. Edward is kind in nature and a good friend to everyone. The younger engines always rely on him for advice. He works hard and always tries his very best to get a job done. When the other engines are misbehaving, the Fat Controller turns to Edward to calm them and restore order. Like James, Edward is also a mixed-traffic engine, meaning that he can pull freight or passengers, though he prefers freight.
